John Strege, 65, Brainerd, died Wednesday, March 22, 2000, at St. Joseph's Medical Center of Brainerd.
He was born Sept. 18, 1934, in Robbinsdale to Arthur and Emmy (Carlson) Strege. He graduated from Robbinsdale High School in 1952 and then worked in the grocery industry as an accountant and store manager in Minneapolis. He married Faye Anne Deslauriers on Sept. 27, 1958. In 1969, he worked as a sales representative for Gerber Baby Foods. In 1971, he was transferred to Fort Ripley. After career changes as a milkman and as a salesman for Keebler Co., he purchased the Corral Liquors in Longville and operated it until their retirement in 1994. They moved back to the Brainerd area. He was a member of the Eagles Club and a charter member of the Fort Ripley Trailbusters.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Anderson, Brooklyn Park, and Terri Labandz, Minneapolis; two sons, Michael, Minneapolis, and Patrick, Brainerd; five grandchildren; and a brother, Richard, Grand Junction, Colo.
His wife died earlier.
Services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brainerd with Pastor Brian Wermager officiating. Memorials are preferred to St. Joseph's Foundation of Brainerd.
