STAPLES -- Verda Edith Hassler, 81, Staples, died Wednesday, March 22, 2000, at St. Cloud Hospital.
She was born Jan. 30, 1919, in Becker Township to Irven and Esther (Jenkins) Farber. She attended country school and later graduated from Staples High School. She married Clair Hassler on June 11, 1941, in Staples. She lived in Minneapolis and worked at Northern Pump while her husband served in the Army. They moved to Staples after his military service. She worked at several places, including Frank's Bar-B-Q in Aldrich, Anthony's Department Store, Longbella Drug and Rexall Drug, all in Staples. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Staples where she was a member of the Mother Teresa Mission Circle. She also belonged to the VFW Auxiliary, Women's Relief Corp, Staples Senior Citizens and the Bridge Club.
Survivors include her husband; four daughters, Jennelle Shriver, Staples, Janice Botz, Kodiak, Alaska, JoAnne Richardson, Staples, and Jean Odden, Staples; a son, Jerome Hassler, Staples; 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Evelyn Anderson, Lindstrom.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Staples with Father Lauren Germann officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Hill Cemetery of Staples.
Friends may call at Brenny Funeral Chapel of Staples from 5-8 p.m. Friday with rosary at 7:30 p.m.
