Lakes Area Pregnancy Support Center will host a silent auction, The Bid For Life, from 9 a.m. to noon April 5 at Franklin Junior High School in Brainerd. It will feature Joe Kimbler of Z-100 as master of ceremonies. The Bid For Life silent auction is this year's alternative to the Walk for Life. Participants can bid on more than 40 items ranging in value from $10 to $1,200.
Contributing businesses in Aitkin, Baxter, Brainerd, Crosby, Crosslake, Deerwood, Pillager and Pine River have provided a selection of art prints, beauty and health services, collectors series, entertainment, fitness, furniture, home dcor and appliances, lodging, recreation, restaurant dining, sports equipment and more. Payment will be by cash and check only. All items must be purchased and picked up when bidding closes at noon.
Coffee and breakfast will be sold on site.
Proceeds will be used by Lakes Area Pregnancy Support Center.
Lakes Area Vegetarian Society
The Lakes Area Vegetarian Society will have its first meeting at 5:30 p.m. Friday at First Congregational Church, UCC, in Brainerd. This group seeks to connect vegetarians and the vegetarian-friendly, offering education about and support for the vegetarian lifestyle. American Legion Auxiliary March luncheon
The American Legion Auxiliary will host its monthly luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at American Legion Post 255 in Brainerd. Proceeds will benefit the Auxiliary Past Presidents Committee. Alpha Chapter No. 23 Eastern Star
Alpha Chapter No. 23 Eastern Star meeting will be 7:30 p.m. Monday with a dinner at 6 p.m. at the Masonic Hall. It will be the farewell meeting for the current staff of officers. Men of the Eastern Star will serve refreshments after the meeting.

Pain management workshop
St. Joseph's Medical Center will sponsor a pain management workshop from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Ramada Inn. The presenters are Debra J. Drew and Barbara St. Marie. This workshop is designed for licensed nurses. Other allied health personnel may find it helpful. Breaks, lunch and handouts are included in the $50 fee. Seven (7.8) contact hours are available for continuing education of health care professionals.

Spring spouting class
Friday is member day at Crow Wing County Co-op. A spring sprouting class will be offered free of charge at 5:15 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday. The first three people to sign up each day will receive free sprouting jars and lids. Members receive a 5 percent discount all day Friday at Crow Wing County Food Co-op.
Firearms safety training
