Water is a precious commodity in many drought-stricken areas of the country. It's also one of the single biggest enemies to one's home -- especially water produced from rain or snow.
Poor watershed and drainage will cause soil to swell and cause cracks over windows and doors. It can cause doors to stick and even rot to siding and framing members under the house.
Waterproof your home by installing roof gutters and downspouts. Make sure downspouts discharge into drainage pipes that carry water away from the house. Soil or concrete that surround the home should slope away from the foundation.
