Verne Weideman, 80, Brainerd, passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2008, at his home in Brainerd, Minn. He was born May 7, 1927, in Newton, Iowa, to Ivan W. and Mildred (Smith) Weideman. He grew up around the Redfield, S.D., area. He was a United States Air Force veteran who served our country during World War II. He married Lydia Kluth on Jan. 14, 1961, in Rapid City, S.D., where they raised their family.
He is survived by his son, Patrick, Baxter; his stepchildren, Jeanne Carda, Sioux Falls, S.D., Marilyn Arias, Gary and Paul Slater; two grandchildren, Chase and Mitchel.
Also survived by his sisters, Bonnie (Donald) McCleerey, Sioux Falls, S.D., and Donna (Alvin) Ness, Scottsbluff, Neb.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lydia; and one brother, Perry.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2008, from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Brainerd, Minn. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2008, at 11 a.m. (MDT) at the Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City, S.D. Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery in Rapid City.
