A clutch free throw shooting exhibition propelled Staples to its third straight Region 6A Boys Basketball Championship at Concordia College Friday night. Staples defeated Breckenridge 45-41.

30 years ago (1973)

A group of Brainerd business and professional men pledged $25,000 of their personal credit to save the old Water Tower.

40 years ago (1963)

St. Joseph's Hospital is included in the annual list of accredited hospitals released by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals.

60 years ago (1943)

-- Arriving in Brainerd last night from Minneapolis where he attends the University of Minnesota was John Arnold.

80 years ago (1923)

One of the attractive St. Patrick's Day windows is that of the Sorenson Jewelry Store on South Seventh St. Large shamrocks and decorations of green from the background for the jewelry displayed.

100 years ago (1903)

By the way the new towns, new newspapers and new banks are being established and started in northern Minnesota, the howling wilderness will soon be converted to civilization.
