Ingrid Anderson, owner of the Swedish Timber House, is establishing contacts for the city of Brainerd with Leksand, Sweden. Anderson suggested Leksand as Brainerd's sister city.

Tom Hawkes of Paul Bunyan Toastmaster's Club was judged the winner of the area 20 speech contest held recently. Hawkes will represent Area 20 at the Northern Division Speech Contest.

Brainerd, according to local school officials, has one of the best physical education programs in the country at the elementary level, thanks in part to a federal program using funds made available. The school district now has a full-time physical education worker at each school.

Brainerd marched up to the front again and carried off the Minnesota State Democratic-Farmer Labor Convention to be held in June. The convention will bring to Brainerd about 1,000 delegates and will be one of the largest conventions held in this convention city.
