AITKIN -- Romelle Erickson Peterson, age 89, of Aitkin, died on Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at the Riverwood Extended Care Center in Aitkin. She was born on July 2, 1915, in Aitkin to Frank and Martha (Hanson) Erickson. She graduated from Aitkin High School in 1932 and married Royce Peterson in 1939 in Aitkin. Mr. Peterson died in 196.3 Before her retirement she worked in the office of Aitkin County Treasurer. She was noted for her music playing and pipe organ at the First Congregational Church for over 60 years. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Woodland Chapter 122, the Tirzah Club, Priscilla Club, Aitkin Hospital Auxiliary, past president of the Aitkin American Legion Auxiliary, Aitkin County Historical Society and the Friends of the arts. She also volunteered for many community activities through the years. She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Marge Anderson and Jerry Cleveland, Duluth, Pixie Peterson, West St. Paul, Linda Peterson, St. Cloud, Penny and Steve Truax, Roseville, three grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 30, at the First Congregational Church (UCC) in Aitkin with the Rev. Penny Fritze-Tietz officiating. There will be an Order of the Eastern Star service at 10 a.m. on Wednesday also at the church. Interment will be in the Lake View Cemetery in Aitkin. Arrangements are with the Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin.
