A 24-year-old Brainerd man was in critical condition today at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd after an apparent attempt to hang himself in the Crow Wing County Jail this morning.
Sheriff Dick Ross said Matthew Aaron Hines, 24, Brainerd, was arrested early today by Crow Wing County Sheriff's deputies for a violation of an Order for Protection and was transported to the county jail.
While conducting a check on Hines at 3:55 a.m. today, jailers found Hines hanging by his neck in a holding cell. A preliminary investigation showed that Hines used a drawstring from his pants to hang himself in a shower stall, said Ross.
Hines was expected to be transported today to the St. Cloud Hospital.
