BOONE, Iowa -- Veda Ann Peterson, 87, Boone, Iowa, died Wednesday, March 15, 2000, at the Boone County Hospital in Boone, Iowa.
She was born March 21, 1912, in Blue Rapids, Kansas, to John and Maude (Reed) Ackerson. She graduated from high school in Burnside, Iowa. On May 12, 1930, she married Harold Omer Peterson in Harcourt, Iowa. The family lived in Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Dayton, Iowa, before moving to Idaho for a short time. They then returned to the Ogden, Iowa, area. In 1959, the couple purchased the Pine Mountain Resort in Backus, which they operated until 1971. They then moved to Pine River where she worked as a nursing assistant at Whispering Pines Good Samaritan Village. Her husband died in 1972 and she remained in Pine River for three years before moving to Ogden, Iowa. She then lived in Boxholm, Iowa, for several years until her health failed and she moved to the Ogden Manor two years ago.
Survivors include her daughter, Sharil Gonder, Paton, Iowa; five sons, Earl Peterson, Kerrville, Texas, Donald Peterson, Ogden, Iowa, John Peterson, Valdosta, Ga., Douglas Peterson, and Curtis Peterson, Pine River; a brother, William Ackerson, Colo., and a sister, Thelma Harvey, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Her husband; a son, Maurice; a grandson, Jimmy; and a great-grandson Cory James, died earlier.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 18, at the United Methodist Church in Ogden, Iowa. Burial will be at 4 p.m. March 19 with Pastor Dan Drown officiating at the graveside service.
