A Brainerd committee that is trying to do something positive and beneficial in the community is having some problems -- it's just too small. The committee is planning the Annual Johnny Inkslinger Celebration. The committee needs more people to help coordinate the many events that are hoped for.

Brainerd's Golden Era of Basketball, a matter of 22 seasons showing 368 triumphs against 130 losses came to a close Thursday with the announcement of the resignation of Fred Kellett.

John Leiser, the pint-sized member of the Melrose team poured in 10 last quarter points as the District 22 Champions held off Crosby-Ironton's battling Rangers 68-65. The victory sends Melrose to the State as Region Six Champion for the first time in the school's history.
60 years ago (1940)
Brainerd's sewage disposal plant is costing the city $30,000 more than originally anticipated as the special sewer committee placed the fault squarely at the steps of WPA. "WPA promises but not fulfilled are the chief reasons for the added cost," Alderman L.C. Anderson told the Council.
80 years ago (1920)
The Brainerd Model Laundry of which O.J. Bouma is Superintendent, has installed new electrical devices for shaping collars in the last stages of laundry art which will do much to save wear of material and prolong the life of the collars.
100 years ago (1900)
Mr. and Mrs. Jennings gave a dancing party to a large number of their friends one night recently. John Brune was there in all his glory with his music box. All present report enjoying a very pleasant evening, except the young fellow who couldn't get any girl to dance with him.
