OWATONNA - Mary L. Mollenhauer, 89, of Owatonna passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2009, at Cedarview Care Center, Owatonna, with her loving family by her side. Mary was born on April 1, 1919, in Marysburg, Minn., to Lester and Pearl (Weckworth) McCarthy. She graduated as class valedictorian from All Saints High School in Madison Lake, Minn. Mary then attended Mankato Teacher's College and graduated from Mankato State University. Mary was a K-12 teacher and worked in the country school districts near Owatonna prior to her marriage. On June 19, 1943, she married Grant E. Mollenhauer in St. Peter, Minn. Following marriage, they made their home in Owatonna until 1970 when they moved to Brainerd, Minn. Mary and Grant returned to Owatonna in 1992. Mary went back into teaching after raising her children and later retired form the U.S. Postal Service. Mary enjoyed painting, playing the piano, the organ, the accordion and singing Irish songs. She also enjoyed the lakes of central Minnesota, cooking, baking and gardening. Mary's greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Owatonna, the Daughters of Isabella, Catholic Daughters of America and the Rosary Society in Brainerd, Minn. Survivors include her three children, Jerry (and Jackie) Mollenhauer, Elysian, Minn., Suzanne (and Rich) Dresser, Owatonna, Wayne Mollenhauer, Owatonna; three grandchildren, Jasmin (and John) Boelter, Jessie (and Pa Kou) Mollenhauer, Brandon Prestridge; two great-grandchildren, Elliot Lee Mollenhauer, Henry John Boelter; a sister, Marge (and Ron) Macho, Bloomington, Minn.; a brother, Lynn L. (and Madeline) McCarthy, Kansas City, Mo.; a brother-in-law, Charles; and nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Grant; son-in-law, Dr. Dan Prestridge; a brother, John; a sister, Elizabeth; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 17, 2009, from 4-8 p.m. at the Brick-Meger Funeral Home. The rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. There also will be an hour of visitation one hour prior to the funeral at church on Wednesday. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Owatonna. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Medford, Minn. Memorials are preferred to St. Mary's School, Owatonna, or to the donor's choice. Funeral arrangements completed with the Brick-Meger Funeral Home, Owatonna.
