Spring weight restrictions on state highways are in effect statewide as of Tuesday when load limits begin in the central, north-central and north frost zones, the Minnesota Department of Transportation announced.
• Winter load increases will end at 12:01 a.m. March 17 and spring load restrictions will start at the same time.
• Weight load restrictions are now in effect for the south, southeast and Twin Cities metropolitan area frost zones.
"MnDOT monitors weather and road conditions daily, so truckers should check frequently to determine precisely when changes occur in the state's frost zones," said Keith Shannon, director of MnDOT's Office of Materials.
He said that MnDOT also urges truckers to check the department's seasonal load limits Web site to learn the locations of weight-restricted routes, changing road conditions and state highways open to 10-ton routes at www.mrr.dot.state.mn.us.
The information also is available by calling (800) 723-6543 in the U.S. and Canada. Travelers in Minnesota can get up-to-date information on road conditions, construction and weather reports from MnDOT's 511 traveler information service. Dial 5-1-1 or visit the Web site at www.511mn.org.
