State takes over management of wolves
Minnesota's wolves have officially been removed from the federal endangered species list. Starting March 12, wolf management was taken over by DNR.
Wolves will be managed under a plan designed to protect them and monitor their population while giving owners of livestock and domestic pets more protection from depredation. It splits the state into two management zones, with more protective regulations in the northern third.
The plan establishes a minimum population of 1,600 wolves to ensure their long-term survival.
