Because West Washington is considered an especially hazardous stretch of highway, the city of Brainerd is about to get a federal windfall. The improvement project from the Mississippi River bridge to the city limits at West 8th Street will qualify for Federal Hazard Elimination Funds.

Brainerd area residents will receive their census blanks in the mail. But they are to fill them in and hold them until a census taker calls at their homes.

40 years ago (1960)

Curtis Hansen, Washington High School Choir Director, was elected National Vice President of the American Choral Directors Association at Atlantic City, N.J. yesterday.

60 years ago (1940)

Club LaGuyal, next Wednesday evening will be the scene of a class reunion for members of the Washington High School Class '39. Members of the ticket committee are Miss Helen Fox, Miss Elizabeth Hoffman, Robert Hoffman and Frank Little.
