20 years ago (1987)

Jessica Rudek, 8, a student at Nisswa School, recently placed first in the state for grades 1-3 in a national poster and essay contest sponsored by Mothers against Drunk Driving and National Car Rental.

30 years ago (1977)

It was a great sight and a great sound when that big piece of construction equipment began ripping loose some of the surfacing on Maple Street. It meant that the downtown improvement project is finally underway. It has been years coming.

40 years ago (1967)

Hundreds and hundreds of pancakes were served by volunteer Chamber of Commerce workers this noon at the Elks Club rooms. The free pancake feed, which is part of a three-day retail promotion, ran from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

60 years ago (1947)

First Lieutenant Donald MacLeod, Brainerd, was recently named to the post of supply officer for the 194th Tank Battalion which is now in its activation stages.

80 years ago (1927)

A supply of the new one cent stamp books have been received and are now on sale at the post office. The book contains 24 one-cent stamps and sells for 25 cents.
