Small fire reported at house

The Brainerd Fire Department responded to a call at 11:08 a.m. Thursday to a small house fire at 811 Sixth Ave. N.E.

Assistant Brainerd Fire Chief Kevin Stunek said the fire started in an ashtray outside the home. The burning ashes ignited leaves, causing minor smoke damage to the house.

Kevin Stiller, who is renting the home, was sleeping at the time and woke up to the smoke. The home is owned by Matt Nelson.

Stunek said no one was hurt and firefighters were able to clear the scene within 20 minutes.
