It is about time gas prices go up, so people can be hit the only way that matters to them -- their wallet. Huge gas-guzzling vehicles have been all the rage way too long. Wake up Americans. We should try and conserve our precious natural resources.
Face the truth
For those of you who oppose the liberation of the Iraqi people and complain about not finding the weapons of mass destruction, be advised that the liberation is nearly complete and the weapons of mass destruction have been found. Namely, Uday, Qusay and Saddam. Time to face the truth.
Issue of equality
Most employers don't provide insurance and other benefits to the partners of employees in same-sex relationships. Many hospitals don't allow partners to visit or make emergency decisions on medical treatment. Few courts allow same-sex couples to jointly adopt children. Therefore, the issue of gay marriage is a civil rights issue. This is an issue of equality, not special rights. Currently, the GLBT community live as second-class citizens in our society. It is time for them to be given the same rights that heterosexual couples have.
Demanding health care
There are 44 million Americans without health care and about 30 million more who are underinsured. The United States is the only industrialized nation that doesn't have a national health care system. We should be demanding health care as a basic human right for everyone in this country. Think of the many social problems that would be solved if all Americans had access to this basic human right. It would be nice to know I lived in a country that cared enough to provide health care for every citizen.
Barrows needs cleaning
As travelers head into the Brainerd area from the south, they must pass through the unsightly community of Barrows. To live in Barrows, it must be a prerequisite to have a minimum of 10 junk cars in your yard, with at least five of them on their side and one totally upside down. Come on, Barrows residents, clean up your act and show some community pride. Furthermore, how does this get by the eyes of Crow Wing Planning and Zoning?
