14-U girls' A hockey team second at regional

The Brainerd 14-U A hockey team, sponsored by Wendy's Old Fashioned Hamburgers, went 2-2 and took second place in its pool at the Olympic Region Tournament Feb. 29-March 2 at East Grand Forks.

In the opening round, Brainerd defeated Crookston 7-0. Scoring for Brainerd were Lizzy Desrocher (unassisted), Brooklyn Motschenbacher (unassisted), Emily Doss (assisted by Motschenbacher), Desrocher (Sarah Sorensen), Kierra Howard (Motschenbacher), Howard (Doss), Motschenbacher (unassisted). Brainerd fired 35 shots on net while Brooke Serfling made five saves in the shutout.

Brainerd lost to Roseau 2-0 in its second game. Serfling had 28 saves and Roseau limited Brainerd to 10 shots on goal.

In the decisive third game, Brainerd beat Moorhead 3-2. Scoring for Brainerd were Desrocher (Sorensen), Bailey Andres (unassisted), Amber Pahl (Sorensen, Desrocher). Shots were 19-17 in favor of Brainerd and Serfling had 15 saves.

In their fourth game, which would decide which team earned a berth in the state tournament, Brainerd lost to Warroad 2-0 despite maintaining a 25-19 edge in shots. Serfling finished with 17 saves.

Brainerd ended the season with a 21-9-1 record. Team members included Brooke Serfling, Amber Pahl, Emily Doss, Zoe Wolhart, Kierra Howard, Brooklyn Motschenbacher, Sarah Sorensen, Bailey Andres, Hailey Joyce, Brooke Swanson and Lizzy Desrocher.
