Robert L. Berg, age 79, lifelong resident of Brainerd/Baxter, died Tuesday, March 13, 2007, at St. Joseph's Medical Center from complications of leukemia. Bob was born Feb. 28, 1928, in Brainerd to Andrew and Mary (Noreen) Berg.
He was employed by Burlington Northern Railroad for 41 years retiring in 1991. He married Jean Halloran on Nov. 28, 1950, at Zion Lutheran Church of which he was a member.
Bob was a member of the American Legion Post No. 255. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a Bronco League baseball coach for 10 years and was active in baseball, golf, bowling and he really enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren in their sports and activities. Bob was a loving husband, dad and grandpa.
He is survived by his wife, Jean, of 56 years; his son, Tom (fiancee Jan Peterson); his daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Tim Caughey; and two grandchildren, Jake and Jackie Caughey; and brother, Vern (Esther) Berg.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Fran; and grandson, Nicholas Caughey.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 16, 2007, at Zion Lutheran Church in Brainerd with the Rev. Mark D. Kleckner officiating. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home and the hour before services Friday at the church. Burial with military honors provided by American Legion Post No. 255 Color Guard will be at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery. Memorials preferred.
