After winning the District 15 postseason tournament, the Brainerd 12-under girls' hockey team finished fourth in the Northern Region Tournament Feb. 28-March 2 at Babbitt.
Jessica Bye scored 11 goals for Brainerd.
Brainerd opened with a 5-1 loss to eventual champion Hibbing. Defender Whitney Joyce scored the lone Brainerd goal, with Bye getting an assist. Brainerd goalie Mindy Vandebrake recorded 20 saves as Hibbing outshot Brainerd 25-14.
In the second of three round-robin games, Brainerd faced Long Prairie. Bye scored the first of her five goals 21 seconds into the game and scored three more in the second. Joyce added one goal in the second. Bye had the only goal of the third period, with an assist by Joyce. Winger Elle Adams assisted on one of Bye's goals. Brainerd outshot Long Prairie 27-16.
In the final game of round-robin play, Brainerd defeated Babbitt 9-0 behind Bye's second five-goal game. Bye scored 28 seconds into the game, with wing Molly Baker picking up the assist. Bye scored once more in the first and once in the second. Winger Sarah Gorvin scored twice in the second. Adams assisted on both of Gorvin's goals, and wing Emily Brink had one assist. Adams and Joyce each scored in the third, along with two more by Bye. Gorvin assisted on Bye's fourth goal. Vandebrake stopped all 12 shots she faced to record a shutout.
In the third-place game, Brainerd lost to Duluth 7-1. Bye had the only Brainerd goal. Duluth outshot Brainerd 25-17.
