CASS LAKE -- The Leech Lake Boxing gym and the Palace Casino and Hotel will present the Region 7 Golden Gloves boxing tournament March 29-30 at the Palace Casino Paradise room.
Amateur boxers from Leech Lake including Cass Lake, Onigum, Inger and Bena, Red Lake, Duluth, the Iron Range, Bois Forte, White Earth, including Naytahwaush, Pine Point, and Rice Lake, and Mille Lacs, including the Mille Lacs and Lake Lena clubs, will compete.
Boxing will begin at 6:30 p.m. March 29 and 1 p.m. March 30.
Adult admission is $6 per session, or $10 for both days. Admission for seniors and anyone 18 and under is $3 per session, or $5 for both days. There also will be $10 ringside reserved seating available.
Registration begins for indoor soccer
The Brainerd Family YMCA is accepting registrations for the indoor soccer league, which begins game play March 22 and continues through May 10.
Players are grouped in grade levels of K-1, 2-3 and 4-5. All teams are coed and play on Saturdays.
Teams play skill development games for the first 15-30 minutes and play against an opponent the last 30-45 minutes.
Registration materials may be picked up at the YMCA, 602 Oak St., Brainerd.

Girls' traveling team places third
A Brainerd girls' seventh-grade traveling team from the Brainerd Basketball Association captured third-place honors with a 53-52 triple-overtime victory over the Minneapolis North Splash at the MYAS state tournament March 7-9 in St. Paul.
Brainerd also defeated Anoka, Wayzata and Delano with its only loss to Winona in the semifinals.
Team members were: Karlye Barron, Megan Bates, Katie Dutton, Kayla Huether, Lacey McCulley, Stephanie Neugebauer, Natalie Reponen, Samantha Smith and Jamie Stockert.
Minnesota Select to have tryouts
The Minnesota Select All-Star Basketball Program is offering athletes an opportunity to try out for teams that compete on a national basis.
The team players will try out for is the grade they will be in the 2003-04 school year.
Registration is $25 (pay only once) and checks may be made payable to Minnesota Select. If possible, it is recommended that players attend both tryout sessions.

Baxter coaches meeting March 20
A meeting for Baxter Mustang and Bronco coaches is scheduled 6 p.m. Thursday in the park office at Oscar Kristofferson Park.
The meeting is for returning coaches and anyone interested in coaching this summer.
