Mildred Hamilton, 91-year-old resident of Brainerd, Minn., formerly of Onamia, Minn., passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2008, in Brainerd, Minn. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2008, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Onamia, Minn. Burial will be in Foster Cemetery near Onamia. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at Bethany Lutheran Church in Onamia. Arrangements are with the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Onamia.
Mildred was born on Jan. 26, 1917, to Clifford and Annie (Daniels) VanVleet. She was united in marriage to Marvin Hamilton on May 21, 1933, in Kimball, Minn. The couple traveled by horse and wagon to settle in Onamia where they farmed and raised their children. Mildred was an excellent cook and she enjoyed preparing meals for her family with vegetables from her garden and chickens from the farm. Crocheting, embroidery, playing cards and watching sports was how she liked to spend her time. Her love of family and friends will be cherished forever.
Mildred is survived by her sons, Donald Hamilton, and wife, Sylvia, of Wahkon, Minn., Harold Hamilton, and wife, Diana, of Onamia, Minn., Douglas Hamilton, and wife, Linda, of Sylvan Lake, Minn.; daughters, Betty Mattson and Vivan Miller, both of Brainerd, Minn.; sisters, Maude Guedes, of Rockford, Ill., Florence Hirsch, of Hopkins, Minn.; and daughter-in-law, Jeannine Hamilton; 20 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Marvin; parents, Clifford and Annie; son, Robert; five brothers; one granddaughter; and special friend, Harold Jackson.
