Embracing growth

With a new location and a new format, the seventh annual Crow Wing County Master Gardener "Ready, Set, Grow!" Garden Expo promises to be better than ever.

The Garden Expo will be held from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. April 5 at Forestview Middle School in Baxter. The expo is sponsored by the University of Minnesota Extension Service Master Gardeners and Brainerd Community Education.

In the past, the expo was held at Central Lakes College. Jackie Froemming, county master gardener program coordinator, said by changing the expo's location to Forestview, it will more than double the number of people who can attend.

"Last year was the first time we had to stop taking registrations at CLC," said Froemming, who's overseeing the expo. "We had to turn people away, and the people who attended last year were asking for a bigger location. In the cafetorium at Forestview, we can fit at least 550 people."

Tips on growing phlox and other flowers will be offered April 5 at the Crow Wing County Master Gardener "Ready, Set, Grow!" Garden Expo.

Froemming said that with the larger space, master gardeners will be able to offer more opportunities for attendees.

Five keynote speakers will discuss different gardening topics, ranging from vegetables to native plants. At previous expos, there was just one main speaker and participants chose three one-hour classes to attend.
