A benefit has been planned for David Hess, a former Brainerd resident, starting at 3 p.m. with food served at 5:30 p.m. March 29 at the American Legion in Brainerd. Music provided by a D.J. Raffles, door prizes and an auction also have been planned for the event. It will be a free will offering.
Hess was critically injured Nov. 20, 2002, after his ATV flipped on top of him as he was loading it into a pickup. He suffered life-threatening internal injuries which he is still trying to overcome. He has remain hospitalized since the incident and will have a minimum one-year recovery period.

Eagles memorial service
A joint Eagles Aerie and Auxiliary memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Eagles Club. Aerie members being remembered are Richard Doust, Wayne Layman, Leo Kowalski and Bruce Newman. Auxiliary members are Marcia Goninion, Lavern Conley, Darlene Clifford and Lena Holsapple. Speaker will be Rick Van Geest. Cake and coffee will be served following the service.
