ST. PAUL -- The Senate embraced a stadium bill Wednesday, backing about $34 million in fees and taxes to pay the yearly mortgage on a roughly $330 million outdoor home for the Minnesota Twins.
Eventually, the money could also pay for a stadium for the Vikings and the University of Minnesota football team.
The bill passed 37-30 after more than six hours of debate and one vote that appeared to kill it. It survived despite feverish infighting by metro-area lawmakers about where it would be built and what extra goodies the host city will receive.
