Winds gusting to 45 m.p.h. and snowfall of more than eight inches socked the Brainerd area Saturday causing poor visibility and treacherous driving conditions.

30 years ago (1978)

The return of winter was unmistakable today as about five inches of snow had fallen by noon.

40 years ago (1968)

Brainerd High School's newspaper, the Pow-Wow, won the highest honor possible in its division in the newspaper magazine contest conducted by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association.

60 years ago (1948)

The Certificate of School Awards and Medals were awarded to Roger Moe and Clarice Skoog, the outstanding boy and girl of the graduating class of the Washington High School at a joint meeting of the American Legion and Auxiliary.

80 years ago (1928)

100 years ago (1908)

L. E. Garrison went to Deerwood today. He is looking after the reconstruction of the bridge across the Mississippi north of Deerwood and says that he proposes to see that the piles are driven deep enough so that the bridge will be substantial.
