State Rep. Mary Ellen Otremba, DFL-Long Prairie, this week announced the availability of a scholarship for individuals entering graduate study for the first time in the fall of 2002.
Four scholarships in the amount of $2,500 each will be awarded to people who are pursuing an advanced degree in political science, public administration, public policy or a related field.
Sprint Corp., in coordination with the Women's Network of the National Conference of State Legislatures, will provide the scholarship funds.
Scholarship applicants will be judged on a variety of factors, including scholastic achievements, written statements, involvement in community and school activities, and letters of recommendation. All application materials are due no later than June 14, 2002. Students should contact Otremba at (800) 709-0796 to obtain an application.
Otremba is a member of the National Conference of State Legislature's Women's Network, which is coordinating the scholarship award with Sprint.
Peace gathering set Friday in Brainerd
The Brainerd Area Coalition for Peace will host a public gathering, march and speak-out against the war in Afghanistan at 3:30 p.m. Friday at the peace pole at United Congregational Church, 415 Juniper St. near Gregory Park in Brainerd.
The march to the post office will begin at 4 p.m. with the speak-out held from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
