20 years ago (1990)

Overland bus service is still limited but improving as the national Greyhound strike enters its second week. Dale Sollid, independent agent who operates the Brainerd terminal, says there are three buses per day compared to five before the strike.

30 years ago (1980)

When the class of 1981 walks through the doors at Brainerd High School next year they're going to find that things have changed. Mainly that it's harder to walk out again. The school board, to comply with the law, will institute a closed campus rule.

40 years ago (1970)

Winston Borden, young Brainerd attorney, officially announced that he is a candidate for the State Senate in District 23, covering all of Morrison and part of Crow Wing county. The seat is currently held by Gordon Rosenmeier, who has been unopposed since 1958.

60 years ago (1950)

The Brainerd Warriors squelched a spectacular final minute Wadena rally to cop the District 24 basketball championship, 50-47. Jim Smith led the scoring with 26 points; Merickel of Wadena had 24.

80 years ago (1930)

According to A.P. Cardle, game warden, the robins are late in arriving this year. In the past two years the robins were here on March 11.

100 years ago (1910)

Brainerd must be getting good. There were but two arrests in city cases last month and none so far this month. Over three weeks has also passed without the issuance of a marriage license.
