LONG PRAIRIE - Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 13, 2009, at First Baptist Church in Long Prairie for Albert William Lang, age 88, of Long Prairie who died Monday, March 9, 2009, at the Long Prairie Memorial Nursing Home. The Revs. Paul J. Twist and Andrew Brown will officiate and burial will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Little Falls. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Stein Chapel, and one hour prior to services at the church.
Albert W. Lang was born Aug. 29, 1920, at Minneapolis, the son of Albert J. and Hattie (Laskowske) Lang. He grew up in Minneapolis and graduated from Minneapolis North High School in 1938. Albert then attended a trade school for one year and then went on the Moody Bible Institute for two years. He served in the United States Army from Sept. 28, 1942, to Dec. 31, 1945. He married Dorothy Polson on Jan. 1, 1949, at Millville, Minn. He was a missionary for the American Sunday School Union in South Dakota from 1949 to 1960. They moved to Brainerd in 1960 and went to work for Cathedral Press and in 1965, the family moved to Long Prairie where he worked as a pressman until his retirement in 1987. He enjoyed collecting coins and stamps, gardening and growing flowers. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Long Prairie.
Albert is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of Pillager; children, Joy (Jim) Collins, of Pillager, Albert (Ranetta) Lang, of Winona, Susan (Steve) Calvin, of Long Prairie, and Deborah (David) Paton, of Red Wing; brother-in-law, Robert Helfinstine, of Anoka; and sister-in-law, Mary Lee Lang, of Oceanside, Calif.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald; sister, Jeannette Helfinstine; and an infant sister.
Casket bearers will be Harley Hanson, Charles McMurray, Barry Bennett, Lowell Peterson, Jim Kingston and Bob Gustafson.
