Brainerd gymnasts Julie Beasley and Angie Johnson have been named to the All-State Select team, Warrior coach Dave Maras announced. Beasley qualified on vault, uneven bars, floor exercise and all-around; Johnson qualified on floor and bars

40 years ago (1969)

Brainerd school teachers last night rejected the new salary schedule adopted by the board and said they plan to take the matter to court. Mel Olson, chairman of the teacher's negotiating panel, said the teachers rejected the proposal by a 195 to 10 margin.

60 years ago (1949)

(Photo) The first dial telephone conversation in Brainerd is demonstrated by Seward MacDonnell of Northwestern Bell Telephone to Mayor Levi Johnson. The call took place in the mayor's office at the Northern Pacific tie plant.

80 years ago (1929)

Harry Schwendeman, aged 22, of northeast Brainerd, passed away from pneumonia. He had been sick only 10 days. The pneumonia attack followed a case of scarlet fever.

100 years ago (1909)

A stenographer at the First National Bank was taken with small pox yesterday morning. He was at once removed to his room and quarantined, and the bank was carefully fumigated today and other employees vaccinated.
