Brainerd Civil Service Commission certifies list for fire equipment operator

The Brainerd Fire and Civil Service Commission on Wednesday certified the 2005 fire equipment operator eligibility roster in its efforts to replace the slot vacated by Fire Chief Fred Underhill.

The commission forwarded the names of the top three candidates to the Brainerd City Council for a final decision. The three paid, on-call Brainerd firefighters and their scores are Geoffrey Williams, 76.25; Mark Turner, 71; and Lance Davis, 66.5.

Commission chair Sue Hilgart said the panel also approved a leave of absence of up to 12 months for Brainerd Police Sgt. Terry Crocker so he can explore the possibility of performing security work in Iraq. That recommendation also was passed on to the city council for a final decision.
