John Joseph Marxen, 76, Brainerd, died Monday, March 10, 2003, at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd.
He was born Nov. 28, 1926, in Minneapolis to John and Hazel (Wagner) Marxen. He attended school in Minneapolis. He entered the Navy in 1943 and served until 1947. He married Rona Johnson on May 7, 1949. She died in August 1990. They had eight children. He married Delilah Shetterly on June 20, 1992. They moved to Brainerd in June 1995. He belonged to the American Legion Post 255, VFW 1647, Senior Federation, Senior Citizens Club and the Mix Senior Coffee Break Bowling Team.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, William Marxen, St. James, Dwayne Marxen, Austin, David Marxen, Mankato; four daughters, Pauline Landey, Daleville, Ala., Linda Wood, Milton, Fla., Helen Marxen, Eagle Lake, and Patty Miller, Faribault; 21 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four stepsons, Robert Mulenburg, Brainerd, Douglas Mulenburg, Darwin, Wayne and Michael Mulenburg, both of Mankato; a stepdaughter, Irene Holen, Montevideo; 13 stepgrandchildren; 12 step- great-grandchildren; and a brother, Albert Bonnacci.
A daughter, two brothers and two sisters died earlier.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home in Brainerd with Father Seamus Walsh officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Mendota Heights.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and one hour before the services Thursday at the funeral home.
