ST. PAUL (AP) -- Gov. Jesse Ventura said he will head south to Chicago to encourage residents to come explore Minnesota.
''You've been to Chicago. Wouldn't you like to get out of there?'' Ventura said last week to the Tourism Advisory Committee.
The daylong trip May 3 marks the governor's first official visit to Chicago.
Ventura, who traveled to Japan in November to promote trade and tourism, claims the state is starting to see results.
''I'm very serious about my commitment to attract more tourists and to grow tourism in this state,'' he said. ''I tell people all the time that for every $1 we invest, we get a $9 return, and that just plain makes economic sense. We all know in looking around our state why we should be a tourism mecca. I think that's why we all live here.''
