Charter Communications is hosting the Brainerd Lakes Area Chambers of Commerce's Business After Hours event from 5-7 p.m. at Country Inn and Suites in Baxter.
Charter Communications, formerly Bresnan Communications, will offer wine-tasting and refreshments to members while they explain high-speed Internet and digital cable connections.
R&H takes top honors
Russell and Herder claimed two top awards this weekend at the American Advertising Awards in St. Cloud and Duluth, winning best of show in both cities.
The shows' entries were judged by a panel of advertising experts from throughout the United States. At the Advertising/Marketing Federation of Central Minnesota's show in St. Cloud recently, Russell and Herder won best of show for a series of three print ads it produced for Clow Stamping, Merrifield. The firm won one of four Judge's Choice Awards for a direct mail piece produced for US Link and won seven Addy Awards for an Aquasport catalog, Larson Boats poster, ad series for Clow Stamping, Wellcraft Marine Boat ad, series of three posters for Minnesota State Colleges and Universities, hunting safety poster for Cuyuna Range Medical Center and the US Link direct mail piece. The firm also received 11 Citation of Excellence Awards.
At the Lake Superior Ad Club's award show in Duluth, one of the Clow Stamping print ads earned another Best of Show for Russell and Herder. The ad also received a judges row award. The firm collected eight Addy Awards, two for Clow Stamping print ads, Potlatch TV ad, US Link campaign, Brainerd Drug Consortium drug awareness kit and Cuyuna Regional Medical Center posters. The firm also received 18 Citation of Excellence awards.
CHOW time set March 30
Central Lakes College's Business and Industry Center is hosting the Brainerd Lakes Area Chambers of Commerce's CHOW Time event from noon to 1 p.m. March 30.
CHOW Time is a networking luncheon, highlighting what's new at the chamber. Cost to attend is $2 with advance reservations, or $3 at the door.

Chamber sponsors transportation forum
Brainerd Lakes Area Chambers of Commerce is hosting a transportation forum in Brainerd.
The forum will be 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Holiday Inn in Brainerd. Representatives from the Minnesota Department of Transportation, Crow Wing and Cass counties and the cities of Brainerd and Baxter will present information about road expansion, construction and improvements.
Topics scheduled included Northwest Airline service into Brainerd, county and city road plans and MnDOT expansion and improvement plans for the lakes area such as the Highway 371 bypass, impact of 371/210 interchange on businesses, Highway 371 south four-lane expansion and projections and Highway 169 plans. A soup and sandwich bar will be available for chamber members and elected officials for $10, non-members pay $15.
Paulson and Herold embark on cruise
Jan Paulson and Katharine Herold, Carlson Wagonlit-Paulson Travel Service, Brainerd, recently returned from the inaugural sailing of the five-star Ocean Princess.
Top producing agents were guests of the Princess Cruise Lines on the sailing from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., to San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Distributors attend GNLD convention
Five Brainerd area distributors recently attended the annual America's Convention for Golden Neo-Life Diamite International at the Venetian Resort in Las Vegas.
Attending were directors, Jan Nelson and daughter, Wendy Anderson, distributor Marie Rakow, and sapphire directors, Scott and Bozena Persons.
Affinity Plus expands online services
Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union expanded online services and has partnership agreements enabled the company to offer members the opportunity to purchase stock online along with other financial capabilities. Affinity Plus has 21 offices across Minnesota, including a location in Brainerd.
Trus Joist receives quality certification
DEERWOOD -- Trus Joist's Deerwood manufacturing facility achieved ISO 9002 certification/registration in February by developing and implementing a quality management system that meets the standards of ISO 9000.
ISO 9000 is the internationally recognized standard for quality management and quality assurance. It was first adopted in 1987 by the International Organization for Standardization. ISO 9002 addressed 19 elements that comprise a system linking quality management to product quality. Traditional quality issues like inspection, identification and calibration are contained in the standard.
Hunt is named field representative
BAXTER -- James Hunt, Baxter, was appointed as a new Catholic Aid Association field representative in the Bemidji region.
He will serve the cities of Brainerd, Baxter, Crosby, Pequot Lakes, Ironton and the surrounding area. Catholic Life is a nonprofit, fraternal life insurance and benefit association headquartered in St. Paul.
Hunt, originally from LeCenter, earned a bachelor's degree in business education and a master's degree in secondary administration from Mankato State University. In 1976, he obtained a specialist degree in school administration from St. Cloud State University.
Hunt taught two years in Cleveland, Ohio, and two years in Austin. He was high school principal in Morristown for three years. He served as assistant high school principal for one year and as interim principal one year and as high school principal for 25 years in the Brainerd School District.
