Esther Mae (Savidge) Erickson, 84, of Brainerd, passed away Friday, March 4, 2005, at her daughter's home in Colorado Springs, Colo. She had been living there for the past six years as her family assisted her in coping with progressive Parkinson's disease.
Esther was born in Hendrum, Minn., on Jan. 30, 1921, the seventh of 10 children to Conrad and Emma (Myrah) Huseby. In 1950, Esther married Clinton Walter Savidge of Toledo, Ohio. They were blessed with three children: Thomas, Janette and Debra. After her husband's death in 1954, Esther and her children returned to make their home in Hendrum, Minn., and be closer to family. In 1963, Esther and the children moved to Brainerd, Minn., where other family members lived and she was employed by the downtown Thrifty Drug Store from 1964-1980 and described by many as "that beautiful woman behind the cosmetic counter." In the fall of 1980 Esther moved to Colorado Springs, Colo., to be closer to her daughter Debra's family and her other children -- Janette then in Idaho and Thomas' family then in Utah.
Esther married Bror Erickson of Brainerd on Sept. 5, 1981, and they returned to Brainerd to make their home. Esther and Bror enjoyed their home together and shared a love of traveling, camping and visiting friends, relatives and family near and far.
Esther's faith was her strength. Always very giving and loving to everyone in her life. Those touched by her warmth and kindness will miss her dearly. Her laugh, her smile, her love of life has been her gift to all of us.
Esther is survived by her husband, Bror, of Brainerd; her son, Thomas (Denise) Savidge, of Las Vegas; her two daughters, Janette Savidge, of Pillager, Minn., and Debra (Larry) Postlewait, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; her sister, Agnes Houske, of Brainerd; two brothers, Lowell (Jill) Huseby, of Hendrum, Minn., and Clayton (Helen) Huseby, of Heightstown, N.J.; along with her husband's four sons, John (Connie) Erickson, of Peoria, Ariz., Ronald (Barbara) Erickson, of Minnetonka, Minn., and Mark Erickson and Thomas Erickson, both of Brainerd. There are also 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Three sisters, Stella Thompson, Evelyn Riedel and Verona Hanson, and three brothers, Clarence, Herman and Vernon Huseby, preceded Esther in death.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2005, at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Kleckner officiating.
