ST. CLOUD -- Russell Christensen, 94, St. Cloud, died Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at St. Benedict's Center in St. Cloud.
He was born July 8, 1908, in St. Paul to Christ and Kathryn (Nielsen) Christensen. He married Verna Aga on Aug. 10, 1940, in West St. Paul. He served his country in the Army during World War II. He was a civil hydraulic engineer for the Army Corps of Engineers. He worked on various designs for federal dam projects across the country, including the Hoover Dam and St. Lawrence Seaway Project. He also taught courses in engineering at the University of Minnesota and was a project manager at the St. Anthony's Falls Laboratory. He retired as a lieutenant colonel of the Army Corps of Engineers in 1968. He was a member of South Santiago Lutheran Church where he was a former president of the congregation. He was a charter member and former president of the Briggs Lake Chain Association.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Lynne Larson and Cathie Kruchten, both of Clear Lake; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
A daughter, Karen Rosenberger; a brother, Irving Christensen; and an infant son, Peter, died earlier.
Memorial services were at St. Benedict's Center Chapel in St. Cloud.
Arrangements were with Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Sauk Rapids.
