Mueller wins women's biathlon

FORT KENT, Maine -- Jaime Mueller of Brainerd won the senior women's 7.5-kilometer sprint in the Biathlon Junior Nationals on Thursday.

Mueller hit six of 10 targets and finished first with a time of 32 minutes, 09.3 seconds.

In the junior men's 10km sprint Adam Youngman of Brainerd placed 11th with a time of 38:09.6.

receives honorable mention

CROOKSTON -- University of Minnesota-Crookston junior forward Angie Swanson, a transfer from Central Lakes College, and a native of Brainerd, has All-NSIC honorable mention for her play this season.

Despite the struggles the UMC women's basketball team endured throughout the 99-00 season, the 5-foot-11 Swanson stood out all season.

In eight individual conference categories, Swanson made the top 10 in four of them, including second in rebounding with 152 for an 8.4 rpg average.

She was fifth in blocked shots with 16 and ninth in steals with 32. She also finished 10th in scoring with 242 points, a 13.4 average.

Swanson led UMC in scoring with 344 points (12.4 ppg) and in rebounds with 222 (8.2 rpg). She was the only player on the team to play in all 27 contests. Swanson started 20 of those games.
