ST. CLOUD (AP) -- Matt Gens scored two go-ahead goals, including the game-winner in overtime, to lead St. Cloud State past Minnesota-Duluth 5-4 in a WCHA playoff game Friday night.
Gens first goal put the Huskies ahead of the Bulldogs 4-3 midway through the third period. But Duluth's Mark Carlson scored with three minutes to play, making the score 4-4 and forcing overtime.
The close play lasted through the extra period. Gens didn't score the game winner until 17:39 had elapsed.
Joe Motzko added one goal and two assists for St. Cloud State (28-8-2, 19-7-2 WCHA). Mark Hartigan and Peter Szabo also scored for the Huskies.
Rob Anderson stopped 31 shots on goal for the Bulldogs (13-23-3, 6-19-3). Dean Weasler had 36 saves for St. Cloud State.
The Bulldogs failed to convert on their five power-play opportunites, while the Huskies scored two power-play goals.
Drew Otten led Duluth with two goals. Jon Francisco had two assists for the Bulldogs.
The Huskies and Bulldogs play again tomorrow night in the best of three series.
