Due to certain events I feel that a response is necessary to an article that ran last week titled Go-CI-Go. For whatever reason the meaning of my article "Aitkin, CI rivalry," Feb. 28, 2000 was taken the wrong way and many people misunderstood my intent.
The purpose of my article was not to put down Crosby athletes or their fans. The main point of my article was that the rivalry does still exist depending on the sport. Every school has its strong point. One year it might be football, the next, basketball. True, the Aitkin girls have beaten the Rangers in basketball in the past few years but everyone understands that the tables may turn at any given game. I was never questioning any athletes' abilities. I am sure that Crosby athletes put just as much time and effort into making each season a success as do the Aitkin athletes. I did not say that Crosby is not a challenge to Aitkin in every sport. As a varsity softball player I know that when we face Crosby we are going up against a tough competitor and we have to play our absolute best.
I also didn't question the amount of "spirit" Crosby fans have. The boys' basketball game that I made reference to had a small turnout of both Crosby and Aitkin fans. Aitkin fans had reasons why they weren't there, and I'm sure Crosby fans did too.
I hope this has cleared up any misunderstanding of my article on the Aitkin and Crosby rivalry. I would also like to wish the best of luck to both Aitkin and Crosby in the upcoming spring sports.
