Brainerd City Council Member Lucy Nesheim is back home and resting after suffering a heart attack March 1.
"It's going great. I feel fine," Nesheim said in a telephone interview Monday.
Nesheim suffered a mild heart attack about 2 a.m. March 1 at her home. She was treated at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd and then airlifted to St. Cloud, where doctors put two stents into her arteries. The stents support her arteries.
Nesheim came home Saturday and said she's feeling better than she has for awhile. She said she had good collateral circulation through exercising.
After suffering a mild heart attack, Lucy Nesheim is home and resting in Brainerd.
As for her city council duties, Nesheim said she wouldn't be attending Monday's meeting and would discuss with her doctor when she could get back into action at Brainerd City Hall.
"I'm going to cool it for a while, although I wanted to go (to Monday's council meeting) and my doctor said otherwise," Nesheim said.
At Monday's city council meeting, council member Mary Koep took over for Nesheim as chairwoman of the Safety and Public Works Committee.
"Hello, Lucy, since I'm sure she's watching and would ordinarily be doing this," Koep said into the city council chambers' television cameras before addressing the committee's first agenda item during the regular council meeting.
Mayor James Wallin also wished Nesheim well while giving his regular report to the council, and said he was glad she was recovering.
"This is your chance to sit back and relax and we look forward to seeing you at our next meeting," Wallin said.
Nesheim thanked staffers at St. Joseph's Medical Center and St. Cloud Hospital for their "excellent" care, and she also thanked well-wishers for their cards and telephone calls.
"It was gratifying," Nesheim said. "It was nice to get the mail today. I appreciate their concern."
Nesheim, 67, is a 16-year veteran of the Brainerd City Council, serving four terms as an at-large council member. She is the current Ward 1 council member.
