The Brainerd Franklin Speech Team took first place in the recent Staples Lions Club junior high speech tournament.

30 years ago (1974)

Brainerd Warriors push favored Flyers in opener; bow out, 60-55. Wadena defeated Staples 70-44, CI defeated Aitkin 64-52.

40 years ago (1964)

The Pow Wow, the school paper published at Washington High School won a first place award in the Annual Columbia Scholastic Press Association. Miss Kaye Torgerson is the faculty adviser.

60 years ago (1944)

A Yank's mother has beaten the British egg shortage and sent her soldier son, stationed in England, a dozen fresh eggs. "Not a one was broken," Rozak wrote home joyfully.

80 years ago (1924)

R.R. Wise was host to about 20 of the Dispatch newsboys this afternoon, taking them to see the matinee of "Uncle Tom's Cabin."

100 years ago (1904)

C.W. Saddler has quit his ice business and gone wolf hunting. David Hammett is home from the woods. Our mail carrier, Mr. Roberts, is entitled to a long credit mark. He has not missed coming with the mail a single day this winter.
