Katy Hochmayr, the daughter of Mary and Terry McCollough of East Gull Lake and David Hockmayr of Lakeshore, graduated Cum Laude from St. Olaf College with a bachelor of music degree in instrumental music education. Hochmayr is now a teacher in the Kealakehe Schools in Kailau-Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii.

Aitkin Business Professionals of America won the Region 5 competition recently at Itasca Community College. The following students competed and were Abbie Baker took first in graphic design promotion, graphic design promotion and in prepared business speech; David Baumgartner, first in payroll accounting and advanced word processing skills; Matt Baumgartner, third in banking and finance; Christopher Becker, second in fundamental word processing skills and visual basic programming; Emily Crain, first in digital media productions; Erin Eno, second in keyboarding production and third in medical office procedures; Beth Grulke, second in advanced word processing skills and advanced office systems and procedures; Leah Hoge, second in medical office procedures; Emily Holte, second prepared business speech; Mike Hughes, second in advanced accounting; Jody Lindbo, second in novel network administration and first in advanced interview skills; Genevieve Moe, first in fundamental word processing skills and in extemporaneous business speech; Levi Morris, second in extemporaneous business speech and third in prepared business speech; Emily O'Neil, fifth in banking and finance and second in basic office and procedures; Kari Paycer, first in human resources management; Alyssa Ritter, fifth place in fundamental accounting; Brock Stoffel, first in keyboarding production and basic office systems and procedures; Josh Voller, fourth in banking and finance and second in legal office procedures; and Justine Wagner, fourth in database applications and first in extemporaneous business speech. Becker and Matt and David Baumgartner also were presented Region Torch Awards.
Students in the Aitkin Business Professionals of American took first place in the Region 5 competition.
Justin Johnson, the son of Bernadette Finch of Brainerd, was named to the 2003 fall semester dean's list at Augsburg College.
Kristina Bird, Brainerd, was named to the fall dean's list at the Viterbo University.
Carrie Korf, the daughter of Larry and Jo Korf of Genola, was named to the fall dean's list at Saint Mary's College in Notre Dame, Ind. Korf is a Pierz Healy High School graduate.
Leah Albrecht, the daughter of Charles and Debra Albrecht of Merrifield, was named to the fall dean's list at North Park University in Chicago. Albrecht is majoring in psychology.
Murray J. Van Duyn, the son of James and Nedra Van Duyn of Brainerd, was named to the fall dean's list at the Greensboro College.
Andrew Schock, Staples, was named to the fall dean's list at the University of Mary.
