RIDGELAND, Miss. -- David E. Bergstrom, 57, Ridgeland, Miss., died Tuesday, March 4, 2003, at his home.
He was born Aug. 11, 1945, in Little Falls to Donald and Kathryne Bergstrom. He was raised in the Pillager area and graduated from Pillager High School in 1963. He received his bachelor of arts degree in psychology and political science from St. Cloud State University. He received additional education from attending numerous management and sales training schools, including financial management, compliance and the Federal Reserve banking short course. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served from November 1967 to November 1972. He was a captain serving as an electronics warfare officer on a B-52. He served two TDY tours in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. At the time of his death he was president of the Jackson VA Federal Credit Union. His 30-year career in the credit union movement started in 1973 as the manager for a credit union in western North Dakota. He then worked for the North Dakota Credit Union League for 15 years from 1974-1989, reaching the position of vice president of field operations. In 1990, he began work as president of the Jackson VA Federal Credit Union. He and his family are former residents of West Fargo, N.D.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Aaron; a brother, Donald; and three sisters, Ardyth Melby, Irene Mienek and Susan VanOort.
A son, Eric, died earlier.
Services will be 2 p.m. March 16 at Faith Lutheran Church, 127 Second St. E., West Fargo, N.D. Burial will be in Bay Pines National Cemetery in Bay Pines, Fla.
The family requests donations be made in his name to the Children's Miracle Network account at the Jackson VA Credit Union, 240 Briarwood Drive, Jackson, MS 39206 or any local chapter of the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society.
