Walz bill would help C-I schools
ST. PAUL -- Rep. Dale Walz, R-Brainerd, is authoring a bill in the Minnesota House of Representatives to help the Crosby-Ironton School District gain access to funding and help ease its budget crunch for next year.
The school needs permission from the Legislature to transfer money from its debt reduction budget into its general fund.
Crosby-Ironton, like a lot of schools in Minnesota, has not been receiving as much state funding because of declining enrollment in the last few years, Walz said. "So they'd like to be able to dip into this reserve fund, if need be, to keep them from running deficits."
The bill would allow the Crosby-Ironton School District to take up to $125,000 for its general fund. It was reviewed by the House K-12 Education Committee and will be considered by the entire House of Representatives later this session.
