20 years ago (1981)

The winter heating bill, that dread payment which can cause grown men to cry, is a little less painful this season for two Brainerd businessmen. Mark Erickson, owner of Kampmann Sash and Door factory and Rolf S. Ledin, president of Northland Truck have both found that using wood fuel can help them minimize their company's heating costs.

30 years ago (1971)

Brainerd's Centennial Hair and Fashion Show thrilled capacity audiences at performances Wednesday and Thursday evening poolside at the new Holiday Inn. The pool area was appropriately decorated in keeping with the theme "100 Years of Fashion."

40 years ago (1961)

Hopes for at least a partial end to the current unemployment picture in Brainerd got a big boost today as the Northern Pacific Railway Company and The Hickerson Garment Factory both announced plans for rehiring by March 16 and 20 respectively.

60 years ago (1941)

Brainerd has 34 of the 45 wholesale trade establishments operating in Crow Wing County. Sales for the 45 wholesale businesses in the county totaled $3,696,000 and the payroll to 129 employees and 31 active proprietors was $179,000.

80 years ago (1921)

Pillager, which never had a water tank takes a poke at the municipal tower and tank in Brainerd in this way. "Brainerd's new concrete water tower was recently advertised on the front page of a trade magazine sent throughout the county. Brainerd always did have a good reputation for being well tanked."

100 years ago (1901)

Gus Johnson returned home from the N.P. Sanitarium last Saturday feeling very weak, but rather poor in flesh.
