Mentors and downtown revitalization marketing efforts were two of the area programs that received grant funding in February.
The Little Falls-based Initiative Foundation awarded 24 community grants totaling $159,220 last month. Organizations selected included:
-- City of Little Falls/Community Development of Morrison County, National Development Council Housing Development Professional Certification, $500, to provide NDC staff certification training.
-- Crow Wing County Parent Mentor Program, activities support, $7,000, to connect experienced mentors to parents needing assistance with parenting skills and support.
-- Region 5 Development Commission, Staples, economic recovery study and assessment, $5,000, to support technical assistance for economically challenged businesses in Crow Wing County.
-- Staples/Motley Community Education, Youth As Resources, $15,000, to develop a local Youth As Resources program to advance youth-driven community service projects.
-- City of Wadena, Wadena Revitalization Committee, downtown revitalization marketing effort, $10,000, to develop a marketing plan for a $3.2 million downtown project.
The Initiative Foundation seeks projects that strengthen central Minnesota communities and address barriers to economic development.
