The Baxter City Council has approved a long-awaited water line extension to the plat of Pinewood Shores, Sylvan Woods and Perch Shores. The extension was approved by 100 percent of Pinewood residents and a majority of the other plat residents.

A battle against time is being waged here to save a $3.5 million building program at St. Joseph's hospital. The local share is $500,000 and much be raised in eight more days, with only $100,000 committed at this time, according to George Bedard, drive chair.

The Arrow Tavern was burglarized between midnight and 2 a.m. this morning, with the burglars taking $200 in cash and checks, plus three cartons of cigarettes. Ken Hagen, manager, left at midnight, returning at 2 a.m. to find glass in the front door broken.
80 years ago (1930)
(Adv.) Spit is a horrid word, but it is worse on the end of your cigar. In the old, filthy cigar shop the man rolled the leaves with dirty fingers and spit on the ends. Smoke Cremo, the good 5-cent cigar made with no spit, and join the crusade of decency.
100 years ago (1910)
J. A. J. McCarthy, of North Ninth Street, died last night of typhoid pneumonia. The young man was well known in the city. Catherine Peutz, a 14-year-old girl from St. Mathias, who had been in the hospital several weeks, has died of typhoid.
