Council member Nesheim suffers mild heart attack

Brainerd City Council Member Lucy Nesheim is recovering in the St. Cloud Hospital after suffering a mild heart attack early Tuesday morning.

Brainerd Finance Director Theresa Goble said Lucy Nesheim's husband, Frank Nesheim, told her that about 2 a.m. Tuesday Lucy Nesheim was taken to St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd and then airlifted to St. Cloud. Frank Nesheim told Goble that Lucy Nesheim had two stents put into her heart and that she would probably be in St. Cloud Hospital for two to five days.

"The doctor said there was minimal damage to her heart," Goble said of her Thursday conversation with Frank Nesheim.

A St. Cloud Hospital representative Thursday said Nesheim was in fair condition.

Lucy Nesheim, 67, is a 16-year veteran of the Brainerd City Council, serving four terms as an at-large council member and the current Ward 1 council member.

Mayor James Wallin said he learned of Lucy Nesheim's heart attack early Thursday. He said he and Lucy Nesheim have become good friends during the time the two have served together on the city council.

"Our prayers are with her and hopefully she'll be back in action soon," Wallin said.
