In its continuing effort to offer drag racing competition, Brainerd International Raceway is teaming up with Interstate Dragways to offer the Upper Midwest Super Series.
This will be a chance for fans to see the four fastest amateur drag racing classes compete for points and cash in an eight-race series. The classes are Top Comp, Super Comp, Super Street and Super Gas. Some racers from these classes are capable of covering the quarter-mile track in six-seconds.
"We're excited about this series because it's going to generate intense competition among some of our top Sportsman drag racers, which translates into exciting racing for our fans," said BIR general manager Scott Quick. "The way we structured this series, it's attractive to our racers, and we're expecting racers from other tracks to enter this series as well. This has the potential to become a great annual series."
Quick expects about 200 racers to compete in the series. The event is also expected to attract members of exhibition drag racing groups, most of whom run 6- and 7-second quarter-miles.
Eight races are scheduled this summer, four at BIR and four at Interstate Dragways, located just east of Moorhead. Dates for the BIR events are May 8-9, July 10-11, Aug. 28-29 and Sept. 25-26.
At Interstate Dragways, the series will run May 15-16, June 19-20, July 17-18 and Aug. 21-22.
At BIR, the Upper Midwest Super Series races will be in conjunction with the track's Contingency Points Challenge, or amateur bracket drag racing. That's also a points series, where racers compete for year-end honors as well as cash and prizes at the end of each race. These races typically attract more than 400 racers.
